Here are the top stories in Columbia today:

  1. Ready for some fun at the fair? The 152nd South Carolina State Fair kicks off in Columbia next Wednesday, Oct. 13, and runs through Oct. 24. The 12-day event brings fun, food, and millions of dollars to the state of South Carolina. The fair will feature new rides this year including Tea Cups and DUMBO. (WACH.com)
  2. Turning Leaf, a Charleston program that assists men who are at the highest risk of rearrest find a new direction after prison, will open the doors to a new Columbia location on Oct. 27. A second location means Turning Leaf is able to provide its unique program of cognitive-behavioral therapy, case management, transitional employment, and job placement to more men returning home from prison across South Carolina. An open house will take place at the new location from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 p.m. (holycitysinner.com)
  3. The Columbia Police Department is holding an outreach event, Faith & Blue, featuring a cookout and ice cream social this Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the City of Refuge Church. (WIS10)
