Seafood Restaurant to Open Soon on Broad River Road

Atlantic Seafood could open as early as Friday, owner says.

A new seafood restaurant is opening on Broad River Road, and the owner is bringing the family recipes all the way from Mobile, Ala.

Owner Ken Dao said all the recipes at his new restaurant, Atlantic Seafood, came from his uncle's Alabama seafood restaurant.

Dao visited the restaurant to get cooking lessons in some of his uncle's specialties: popcorn shrimp, the po'boy sandwich and seafood gumbo.

Opening his own seafood restaurant has always been a dream, Dao said.

"I wanted to open this type of restaurant for five years," Dao said, "but I never found a location. Now I did, so I'm going to do it."

The restaurant is located in the old Taco Bell building on Broad River Road near Interstate 20 — the perfect location, Dao said.

"I see all the restaurants around here. This road is busy," he said. "We're right at the intersection of I-20 and I-26."

Although this is Dao's first seafood eatery, he's not new to the restaurant business.

Dao is a partner in two restaurants in Five Points: a Vietnamese restaurant called Pho Viet and a yogurt shop called Fruiti Cup.

Dao said he expects Atlantic Seafood to open Friday, if everything goes well with the final inspections.
