Sheriff Declares October Crime Prevention Month

The sheriff's department is releasing daily tips on crime prevention throughout October.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott is asking citizens to do one thing each day in October to make their homes, business and communities safer.

The sheriff's department will be celebrating Crime Prevention Month during October in conjunction with the National Crime Prevention Council's effort to dedicate an entire month to crime prevention awareness.

"We always try to strive to educate the public about ways that they can stay safe," said Deputy Arielle Riposta, public information officer for the sheriff's department. "[Sheriff Lott] is really trying to reach out to the community and let them know what services we have so that they can take advantage of them."
