Sheriff Lott Announces Run for Re-election

Voters will head to the polls June 12.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced Thursday that he is running for re-election after 16 years as sheriff. 

Lott contributes the success of the Sheriff's Department to the deputies who work to create partnerships with citizens.

"We've made progress over the years but we are faced with new challenges everyday to our communities' public safety," Lott said in a statement.

Lott started as a patrol officer at the Sheriff's Department in 1975, advancing to several other positions. In 1993, he took the position of Chief of Police of St. Matthews, S.C.

He returned to the Richland County Sheriff's Department in 1996 after a successful run for sheriff.

"I am honored at having the privilege of being your sheriff for the past 16 years and look forward to continuing our work together to make Richland County a more proactive and safe community," Lott said.

The statewide primary election will be held on June 12. Positions up for election include sheriff, coroner, clerk of court, several council districts and several House of Representatives and Senate seats.
