Sheriff's Department Introduces Official Humvee

Sheriff Leon Lott unveiled the vehicle at A.J. Lewis Greenview Elementary School Wednesday.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department showed off its newest vehicle at a school event Wednesday: a Humvee decked out in the sheriff's department logo.

The sheriff's department purchased the vehicle through a government program called 1033 that allows law enforcement to purchase used military vehicles.

The Humvee will help the sheriff's department educate, connect and build relationships with the citizens of Richland County, Lott said. It will be used at events such as school presentations, youth organizations and large scale parades.

Volunteers with the sheriff's department put in more than 140 hours into preparing the vehicle for the Pre-National Night Out event on July 30.

“It speaks volumes and makes everyone’s job easier when you have a group of professional men and women that are motivated and dedicated to their job," Lott said in a statement. "With that being said, it’s just what we do at RCSD everyday.”
