Student Injured When Gun in Backpack Discharges at South Carolina High School
The shooting occurred at Southside High School Friday morning.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - A student was injured in an accidental shooting in the cafeteria of a South Carolina high school when a handgun in a backpack accidentally discharged, officials said at a press conference.
The male student was transported to the hospital by EMS and is said to have suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound, officials said. Authorities responded to the school for the report of the shooting just after 8:30 a.m. and located the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Law enforcement officials escorted students out of the school and did not locate any additional threats, the Greenville County Sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said they are not looking for any suspects and believe that it is an isolated incident. Officials said two students were in possession of the gun when it accidentally discharged, however officials did not release any information on what might have led to the incident.
Braylin DeAndre Scott, 17, one of the student's in possession of the gun, was charged as an adult with unlawful carrying of a pistol, disturbing schools, and carrying a weapon on school property. The second student, who is a juvenile, will likely face charges when he is released from the hospital.

A third student who came in possession of the gun turned it in to school officials.
Sources told Fox Carolina reporter Cody Alcorn that the shooting may be self-inflicted. School officials later confirmed that report.

According to the latest update from Greenville schools, students were dismissed to parents and guardians through the main entrance on Frontage Road.
The shooting prompted lockdowns at Blythe, Grove and Kerns elementary schools.
