Shoppers Rush to Mall for Last-Minute Gifts

Only hours left until most malls close for Christmas Eve and Day.

Some are expert last-minute shoppers. Some are just picking up a few last things.

Shoppers at Columbiana Centre are searching for that perfect last present on Christmas Eve.

Vanessa English, who lives in Blythewood, arrived at the mall around 8:30 Saturday morning to finish up her shopping.

"I was expecting it to be a little more crowded so I came very early. But it's starting to pick up a little now," English said around 10 a.m. when she was taking a break on a bench.

English said she's "usually a procrastinator" when it comes to Christmas shopping.

"I just needed to sit down and think about what I need to get and follow the list," English said. "I need some organization."

Batesburg resident Mary Lott brought some family members along to help her finish her shopping list.

"I usually get all of my shopping done ahead of time," Lott said. "But this year we had an illness in the family that set me back a little."

Columbia resident Ashley Lake was also shopping with family members and picking up a few small gifts.

"We usually get all of our shopping done on Black Friday and just get a few small things afterwards," Lake said.

Shoppers have until 6 p.m. to buy gifts at Columbiana Centre. .
