St. Andrews Residents Have Average Commute

A study shows that St. Andrews residents are in the middle of the road when it comes to commuting conditions.

St. Andrews residents don't have it too tough when it comes to commuting.

About half of St. Andrews residents spend 15 to 29 minutes driving to work each day, according to a new On Numbers study.

The study also shows that about 31 percent of St. Andrews residents have a commuting time of 14 minutes or less. That's slightly better than the national average of 28.7 percent.

Only 4.5 percent of the workforce in St. Andrews faces a commute of 45 minutes or more. The national average is 15.5 percent. 

On Numbers analyzed data from the five-year version of the 2009 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.

St. Andrews is a CDP (census-designated place) that fits into the small communities category of the study with a population of about 21,000. 

Cities, towns and CDPs were awarded points for commuters who drive less than 30 minutes to work. They lost points for workers with commutes longer than 30 minutes. 

The commuting index for St. Andrews totaled to 6.986. Of the 39 communities in the study, only 16 had a better commuting index than St. Andrews.
