Surveillance Video in El Toro Shooting Released

Deputies are searching for three suspects in the shooting and killing of a security guard at El Toro Mexican Bar & Grill.

Surveillance video from a shows the suspects fighting with the guard before opening fire and driving away.

The guard, Jimmy Moti, 42, of West Columbia refused to let three black men into the bar around 11:30 p.m. after questioning the authenticity of one man's ID, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. The guard and the men got into a fight. 

Surveillance video from the gas station next door to the bar shows the suspects assaulting Moti, according to the sheriff's department. Moti defended himself by pepper spraying two of the suspects.

The suspects got into a black, older-model Mercury Marquis and drove away, according to the sheriff's department. That's when they fired shots and hit Moti. 

Moti died in surgery Sunday morning after he was shot in the abdomen, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said.

The sheriff's department is asking anyone with information about the suspects to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
