Here are the top stories in Columbia today:

  1. Alcorn Middle School administrators were made aware of a potential threat sent over a text message yesterday, according to officials. The district and the Columbia Police Department investigated the threat, and are continuing to investigate, however, the threat was not believed to have been credible. There was an additional presence of officers on campus yesterday as a safety precaution and school operations proceeded normally, according to officials. (WIS10)
  2. The front-runner in the search for the University of South Carolina's next president has decided not to pursue the job. Purdue University engineering dean Mung Chiang says he's decided to stay with Purdue and focus on family instead. The school has been looking for a new leader since May. (WLTX.com)
  3. Goodwill Industries of the Upstate/Midlands South Carolina is hosting a job and resource fair at their location at 111 Highland Center Drive today. Officials say that participants can meet directly with employers. The event lasts from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. (Abccolumbia.com)
  4. Governor Henry McMaster has also ordered the flag atop the Statehouse and at state government buildings to fly at half staff until sundown Thursday in honor of Senator Bob Dole who passed away Sunday at age 98. (Abccolumbia.com)
