Residents of St. Andrews say they can't help but follow the heated debate about the nation's debt. It's been on the evening news for months now.Â
Patch interviewed three people in St. Andrews about the issue. (See the videos to the right.)
Congress has exactly two weeks to reach an agreement and raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling. If Democrats and Republicans can't reach an agreement by Aug. 2, the U.S. will default on the nation's debts, causing another economic crisis, warns the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

In the past week, the GOP has been pushing to pass "Cut, Cap and Balance" legislation that aims to cut spending to reduce next year's deficit, put caps on federal spending in the future and add a Balanced Budget amendment to the Constitution.Â
So far, 39 Senators, including Sen. Jim DeMint and Sen. Lindsey Graham, have signed the bill. Also, 115 memebers of the House have signed the legislation, including Rep. Joe Wilson, who represents District 2 and the St. Andrews area. South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley also signed it.Â
