The city of Easley's new amphitheater will be getting a few more improvements this year once funding is in place.
The Tax Increment Finance Committee met Thursday to discuss future projects to improve the quality of life within the city of Easley. In 2011 the city began construction on a new amphitheater in Old Market Square, but funding restrictions did not allow for the project to be completed.
Once the first phase of the project was complete the city held a special opening celebration in October. This year the city is planning on moving forward with additional improvements at Old Market Square.
The TIF Committee voted to propose an ordinance to move forward on two of the four remaining projects, Phase II and Phase IV.
Phase II will include improvements to the walkway surrounding the Old Market Square clock tower, landscaping, bench swings, and a new staircase leading into the square, according to Patrick Rivers of Land Planning Associates.
Phase IV includes resurfacing of the walkway leading to the square from North Pendleton Street, landscaping along the walkway, bench swings, and the addition of a decorative trellis.
Phase II is estimated to cost approximately $30,000 and Phase IV is estimated to cost approximately $60,000-70,000, according to Rivers.
"There may be some fluctuations in prices, but that gives a decent ball park there," Rivers said. The original estimates were made in 2010 when the project was first initiated Rivers said.
The city will open the project up for bidding on January 29, according to the committee.
The projects are pending the receipt of funding from the county TIF fund which City Administrator Fox Simons said should be finalized in the next two weeks.
