• Coker University president discusses free tuition initiative, other reduced programs (wbtw.com) — Florence families could see college become far more affordable thanks to Coker University’s new Pee Dee Promise, which will cover full tuition for qualifying students from Florence and nine other counties starting in 2027. The initiative targets households earning $75,000 or less and pairs federal, state, and institutional aid, while some graduate programs will also see tuition cuts to expand local access to higher education.
   

• 2 pedestrians seriously injured in alleged hit-and-run in Florence County (wmbfnews.com) — Two pedestrians suffered serious injuries after being struck by a car in Florence County near Timmonsville, with the driver leaving the scene before law enforcement arrived. Florence County Fire Rescue and EMS treated and transported the victims, while also safely disarming a man who approached waving a rifle. Deputies are still investigating both the hit-and-run and the tense confrontation that followed.
