Hanahan Middle's Eco Challenge Team Focuses on Marine Debris

Student team working hard for a fourth national victory.

Release, Hanahan Middle School:

The three-time national title-winning Hanahan Middle School Eco Challenge Team is on a mission to end marine debris in the Lowcountry.

The team has dedicated October as Marine Debris Awareness Month. As part of this project, the group — under the direction of seventh grade science teacher Alexandra Davis — challenged fellow peers at school to bring in plastic soda rings and tangled fishing line to be recycled. The students reached out to local marinas and boat landings to ensure that they participate in DNR's Monofilament Recycling Program, and they hosted a table at the Carolina Green Fair on Oct. 14.
