📰 News we're reading

• Goose Creek moves forward with joint fire, police training facility (dailydispatch.com) — Goose Creek officials are advancing plans for a new joint fire and police training center that will let first responders train locally instead of traveling to places like Awendaw. Backed by initial state funding and a total projected cost of $55 million, the multi-phase facility is being designed to keep pace with the city's rapid growth and expanding public safety needs.

• SC legislators approve $350M in earmarks, agree to changes next year (lexingtonchronicle.com) — State lawmakers have approved $350 million in earmarks for local projects, while promising to tighten the process next year. Goose Creek–area Rep. Jordan Pace and the Freedom Caucus pushed instead for tax cuts, arguing they'd rather return money directly to taxpayers than fund what they see as nonessential spending, even as other legislators defended earmarks for infrastructure and public safety.
