Landmark Pittsburgh Bar Closes After 28 Years

The vacated space won't be empty for long, though. Find out here what will take this legendary local establishment's place.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Sharp Edge Beer Emporium, the landmark Friendship tavern that was essential in ushering in the craft and import beer era in Pittsburgh, has closed after a 28-year-run.

The first bar in the Sharp Edge chain has been sold to the Lang Restaurant Group, which owns Pig Iron Public House in Cranberry and the Pittsburgh Food Truck Park in Millvale. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported that it soon will reopen as SYN Tacqueria + Pizzeria.

The Sharp Edge, at 302 South St. Clair St. on the Friendship-East Liberty border, proved so successful that owner Jeff Waleski opened additional locations in Crafton, Sewickley, Peters and Downtown.
