1. Greenville advances 135-acre Woodruff Road annexation: City Council notes (greenvillejournal.com) — Greenville City Council just advanced a massive 135-acre annexation along Woodruff Road and I-385 and committed $8.3 million to start burying utilities on Augusta Street this fall. Council also finalized a funding deal for $60 million in arena renovation bonds, approved major Greenville Water capital bonds, and backed new funding for the zoo and police equipment, while blocking an industrial rezoning near Conestee Nature Preserve.
2. County Square redevelopment nears vertical construction phase in downtown Greenville (upstatebusinessjournal.com) — A more than $1 billion overhaul of Greenville County Square is moving toward vertical construction, with internal roads and utilities already finished. Phase one will bring mixed-use buildings, Whole Foods, national retailers, hundreds of townhomes, and new parking garages, with major pieces expected over the next three years and a city-built garage targeted for completion in May 2027.
3. Public presses Greenville leaders to act on Flock cameras (wyff4.com) — Greenville residents are pressing City Council to curb or remove Flock license-plate cameras after several Upstate law enforcement officers, including two from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office, were fired for alleged misuse. Council members heard emotional public comments but took no action yet, while At-large Councilwoman Tina Belge emphasized existing policies, data-retention limits, and the need for more transparency before deciding the system's future.
4. Dead woman named person of interest in South Carolina cold case (wxii12.com) — A long-unsolved 1992 murder involving Tammy Zywicki, who grew up in Greenville and graduated from Eastside High, has a new twist as investigators name deceased hitchhiker Theresa "Teri" Belenske a person of interest. Authorities are reexamining evidence, highlighting missing items tied to Greenville, and offering up to $50,000 for tips that could finally identify the killer.
