Newsweek Named Chapin High One of Nation's Best

Chapin High School made the list of the best high schools in the nation by Newsweek and The Daily Beast.

Chapin High School in Lexington-Richland 5 has been named one of America's Best High Schools by Newsweek and The Daily Beast.

Chapin, ranked No. 725 out of 1,000 high schools in the nation, is one of four high schools in South Carolina. 

Other schools making the list include Academic Magnet in North Charleston (No. 22), Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville (No. 42) and Charleston County School of the Arts in North Charleston (No. 788).

The list is based on the following six components provided by school administrators:

  • Graduation rate (25 percent)
  • College matriculation rate (25 percent)
  • AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent)
  • Average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent)
  • Average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent)
  • AP courses offered per student(5 percent)

According to the report, the ranking highlights the best public high schools that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready graduates.
