Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: Oct. 27-Nov. 2

This week's artifact is one our spookiest.  Its a watch chain made around 1860 by Claudia Josephine Quattlebaum out of her own hair. Claudia Josephine was the daughter or Paul Quattlebaum the riflemaker and married Thomas Furman Brodie in 1865.  Hair jewelry was very popular in the Victorian period.  Jewelry made from hair was done to mourn or given to lovers.
See this artifact and more at the Lexington County Museum, located at 231 Fox Street in downtown Lexington. Visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/museum for more information.

Also, remember to subscribe to our newsletter at: http://www.lex-co.sc.gov/departments/DeptIQ/museum/Pages/MuseumNewsletter.aspx. Check back next week for another exciting artifact!
