Newberry County Authorities Investigate Body Found in Broad River

A body was found in the Broad River near the town of Peak on Friday afternoon, the Newberry Sheriff's Office announced.

Boaters along the Broad River discovered the body in the water, officials said. 

Investigators from the Newberry County, the Department of Natural Resources, the State Law Enforcement Division and the Newberry County Coroner's Office are all on the scene.

The gender or race of the body, or why the body was in that area has not been determined, according to the sheriff's office.
