S.C.'s Class of 2012 Earn More Than $1 Billion in Scholarships

South Carolina's Class of 2012 has earned more than $1 billion in college scholarships — the first group of high school seniors to do so since the state began tracking scholarship information, according to a South Carolina Department of Education release.

A total of $1,063,112,048.92 in scholarship money was earned by this year's seniors.

seniors earned the most scholarship money in the state with $117,875,366. Greenville was second with $104,423,388.

The scholarship totals came from an annual survey of South Carolina school districts, as well as district-sponsored public charter schools, the Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics, the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, and the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind, according to the release.

Hampton County School District 2 did not participate in the college scholarship survey.

Scholarship totals include money from two-year and four-year institutions.

• $869 million (2009)
• $767 million (2008)
• $684 million (2007)
