Dutch Fork Girls Take Class AAAA Crown

Silver Foxes trounce Orangeburg-Wilkinson 61-29 for state title.

With stellar all-around play, an up-tempo offense and a stifling defense, the Dutch Fork Silver Foxes girls basketball team claimed their first-ever state Class AAAA basketball title Friday night with a resounding 61-29 win over Orangeburg-Wilkinson.

Amid a raucous atmosphere at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, the game never seemed in doubt. The Silver Foxes took an early that they never relinquished, pulling away in the fourth period for their lopsided win against the Bruins.

"It feels good," said head coach Faye Norris afterwards. "It's great for the girls. That's one thing I wanted them to have. I had it in high school. That's one thing nobody can ever take away from them.

"I wanted those girls to walk away with something," Norris added. "I wanted them to bring it all the way home."

Asked how she planned to celebrate tonight, Norris said, "We're probably going to get us some rest. We have been celebrating all week."
