• Dorchester School District 2 to install bulletproof doors in special-ed classrooms (postandcourier.com) — A Ladson-based company, R2P Innovations, is supplying about 15 bulletproof, fire-rated doors for Dorchester District Two special-education classrooms this summer, funded entirely by a state safety grant. The veteran-led firm’s custom Safe Haven Doors are designed to withstand heavy gunfire and flames, giving teachers more time to protect vulnerable students during emergencies. 
• Local organization receives grant to increase preparedness (live5news.com) — An $80,000 grant is funding a year-round disaster preparedness role based in Ladson to better coordinate help before and after hurricanes and other emergencies. Trident United Way’s VOAD program will link nonprofits and local governments, participate in Charleston County emergency planning, and focus on supporting families who struggle most after disasters across the region.
