• Marion County animal shelter overcrowded, pleads for community support (wmbfnews.com) — Marion County’s animal shelter is packed with more than 240 animals in a space built for about 80, and staff warn its hard-won kill-free status is at risk without more community help. With only four employees and limited county funding, they’re urging local residents to adopt, foster, donate, or even take a dog out for a few hours.
   

• SCDOT: Florence Co. bridge over Middle Swamp being replaced; others set for updates (wpde.com) — Drivers in Marion should know the US 76 eastbound bridge over the Great Pee Dee River is on SCDOT’s priority list for major rehabilitation in the coming years. While a nearby Florence County bridge is already being replaced, this Marion span and several Horry County bridges are slated for significant upgrades after routine inspections flagged them among the state’s top repair needs.
