Mount Pleasant leaders to consider temporary moratorium on data center proposals (counton2.com) — Mount Pleasant Town Council is weighing a 120-day pause on new data center proposals to study their noise, power, and water impacts and tighten zoning rules. Leaders say no large applications are pending yet, but they want time to distinguish massive hyperscale centers from smaller business facilities before anything moves forward. The ordinance gets its first hearing at Tuesday's 6 p.m. council meeting.
   

2. Restoration of historic Black schoolhouse nears completion after years of fundraising (live5news.com) — A historic Black schoolhouse in Mount Pleasant's Snowden community has finally secured enough funding to finish its transformation into a museum and cultural center. A new $250,000 state grant, combined with earlier town support, will pay for interior work like plumbing, wiring, and insulation. Organizers say the restored Long Point Schoolhouse will preserve settlement community history and host future educational programs.
   

3. Mt. Pleasant man says mushrooms made him paranoid before shooting at moving vehicle (live5news.com) — A Mount Pleasant man has been sentenced after admitting he fired multiple shots at an occupied vehicle on Highway 17 in 2024, saying he was paranoid while on mushrooms. The judge reduced the original attempted murder charge and imposed prison time, suspended in part, plus probation, while the victim urged accountability in court.
   

4. Authorities rescue passenger stuck in car after crash on John's Island (counton2.com) — Emergency crews from several Charleston-area departments, including Mount Pleasant Fire Department, worked together Sunday to free a seriously injured passenger after a major crash on Main Road on John's Island. Thanks to an automatic aid agreement, Mount Pleasant units can respond wherever they're closest, helping ensure faster rescue times for residents across the region.
