Town: Properly Dispose of Cooking Oil

Mount Pleasant issues guidelines for cooking oil disposal.

With the holiday season fast approaching, the Mount Pleasant Stormwater Division urges residents to dispose of their cooking oil, grease and fat properly to preserve water quality.

“Be kind to the environment and protect our natural resources by never pouring those products down your sanitary or stormwater drains. You can clog or block pipes and threaten the health of our water resources,” said Hillary Repik, stormwater manager. “Thank you for doing your part in preserving our marshes and ponds. Have a safe and happy holiday season!”

Repik recommends the following disposal tips:

• For small amounts of oil, fats or grease, pour into a tin can, cover with a tight lid, and let harden. Dispose of tin in your trash for garbage collection.

• Large volumes of oil left over from frying your turkey? Take your used oil for disposal to the Charleston County Recycling Center located at 13 Romney Street. For hours, please contact Charleston Environmental Management at 843-720-7111.
