Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Additional information has been released on Wednesday's shooting investigation in Carolina Forest. Authorities say an elementary school teacher, 42-year-old Laura Moberly, and her two children Eric, 11, and Emily, 8, were found dead inside the home on Centennial Circle off Carolina Forest Boulevard. The shooting happened early Wednesday morning. Officers were called to the home for a welfare check that afternoon and had to force open the front door. Once inside, they discovered the three bodies. Moberly was a Reading Loss Interventionist at Carolina Forest Elementary School where her daughter, Emily, was a third grader. Seventh grader Eric attended Ten Oaks Middle School. The police report indicates that one of the three dead persons was listed as the suspect and the other two were listed as victims. (WBTW) (wpde.com) (WMBF)
- Myrtle Beach police are warning the public of an ongoing phone scam in which someone impersonating a member of the Myrtle Beach Police Department is making phone calls and asking people for identifying information and numbers. The MBPD says if you receive one of these calls hang up immediately and call the department to report the scam. The number to call is (843) 918-1382. - A decision on the highly-contested rezoning request to bring 500 or more homes to River Oaks Golf Club has been deferred to October. The developer wants to hear the community's concerns before the project goes forward. A community meeting will be September 21 at 5 p.m. prior to the Carolina Forest Civic Association meeting. Residents will be welcome to air their concerns and ask questions at the meeting. (WBTW)
- It may have something to do with the free tuition currently being offered by Horry-Georgetown Technical College, but the school just announced its highest enrollment numbers in the college's entire history. The 2022-23 semester has 8,400 students enrolled and is the highest one-year increase in new students since 1966! The previous record was set more than twelve years ago, in 2010. (WMBF)
- The brand-new Randall S. Webster Emergency Operations and Communications Center officially opened this week in Conway. The center is named after Randy Webster, the director of Emergency Management in Horry County. The new facility is the permanent headquarters of the Horry County 911 center and the Emergency Management Department. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
