Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Today is Small Business Saturday and that's your cue to shop local! You can save money on some great deals and support local business owners at the same time. The Myrtle Beach City Council recognized Small Business Saturday in a proclamation stating that our many small businesses are the backbone of the Grand Strand economy. Shop local today! (WMBF)
- Agnes Ebert, 92, of Carolina Forest says her guardian angel was with her last Sunday when two armed men entered her home. The suspects went into Ebert's home, saw that she was inside, and left the property. Ebert's security system alerted her that the back door of her home in Waterford Plantation was open as she sat watching a Hallmark movie last weekend. She said two men who entered her premises were masked and each of them was holding a gun. She actually confronted the men by asking them,"Is this a joke? Who are you?" causing the men to walk out of her home. No one was harmed. Ebert's security cameras also captured images of a third man who has been identified. Horry County police are asking for information on the other two suspects. (wpde.com)
- LC3 Church served nearly 1,300 Thanksgiving meals on Thursday during its Project N.O.A.H. event, breaking last year's meal total. The church, located in Murrells Inlet a few doors away from where I used to live, started preparing for the event back in August and started cooking on Monday! Over 200 volunteers from seven area churches helped cook, serve, clean and prepare the meal. Local groups pitched in to cover costs, too. The event is designed to bring together people who would otherwise be alone on Thanksgiving. People also were able to take meals to go if they wanted. (WBTW) (WMBF)
- In other news from the MarshWalk neighborhood, Georgetown County's Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee denied the Wicked Tuna's request for a restroom building near Veterans Pier at the MarshWalk. Wicked Tuna currently has port-a-potties alongside the restaurant and has been working for several years on building a concrete restroom building to replace the portable units. (Coastal Observer)
- Myrtle Beach Police are seeking the public's help in finding information about three dogs that were found dead in a dumpster at an apartment complex on Greens Boulevard. The adult female pitbull and two puppies were inside a plastic tub in a dumpster. Grand Strand Humane Society reports that the adult dog was black and brown and had cropped ears. She was medium-size and appeared to be between one and three years old. It is suspected that the mother dog died of starvation and the two puppies, about eight weeks old, were drowned. Anyone with information should contact MBPD animal control at (843) 918-1331 or by email at animalcontrol@cityofmyrtlebeach.com. (WMBF)

- The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach: "♥️ Wallace, aka Wally, is the most docile and kindest gentleman around. This 8 year old hound is 56 pounds of pure goodness! Wally has such a tender heart, and he really does love LOVE! Wallace is also the absolute laziest boy. If you like lounging around and living a low-key life, then Wally is the dog for you. He's not a fan of walking or running or really any activity that involves using a lot of energy. Wally likes to lie around and be horizontal most of the day. Relaxing on a couch while receiving a nice massage and taking lots of naps is how Wally would like to spend his days. Wally is well behaved, good with children and other dogs." About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
