The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

(Patch Media)

Hey, neighbors. Kathy Mandell here with your Saturday, November 19, 2022 copy of the Myrtle Beach Daily, full of everything you need to know about what's happening locally. Today you'll find news about...

  • Charges were dismissed against ex-Horry County Deputy, Joshua Bishop.
  • Surfside Beach Town Administrator William Shanahan has resigned.
  • Carolina Country Music Fest is officially sold out!

Let's have a quick peek at Saturday's weather:

Partly to mostly sunny. High: 59 Low: 45.

Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Charges have been dropped for ex-Horry County Deputy Joshua Bishop in the 2018 van drowning case during which two women died. Bishop was a passenger in the van and it was stated that he did everything in his power to get the women out of the van. Solicitor Ed Clements of the 12th Circuit said the charges were dismissed due to a lack of evidence against Bishop. The other deputy who was driving the vehicle was found guilty earlier this year and sentenced to 18 years in prison. (WBTW) (wpde.com) (WMBF)
  2. William Shanahan, the Surfside Beach Town Administrator for the past two years, is stepping down. Shanahan will be resigning from the position effective December 17. A reason for the decision was not given. (WMBF) (WBTW)
  3. Carolina Country Music Fest 2023 is officially sold out after organizers announced the addition of Bret Michaels to the lineup. CCMF organizers said it was the fastest sell out in the concert's eight-year history. The festival organizers urged people to beware of scammers if buying or selling third-party tickets. (WBTW) (Visit Myrtle Beach, South Carolina via Facebook)
  4. Ground-breaking! Horry County Fire Rescue broke ground on two new fire stations. Stations 5 and 12 will now be combined and will serve the Hand community. Station 14 burned down over a decade ago and was not rebuilt. Both projects are expected to be completed by 2024. (WBTW) Crews working for Horry County Council on Aging broke ground on the new Carolina Forest Senior Center this week. The project had been delayed several times due to floods and COVID. The new building will be located next to Carolina Forest Library and Recreation Center. The project should take about a year to complete. (WMBF)
  5. North Myrtle Beach's Great Christmas Light Show starts Monday. This amazing drive-through light show is not to be missed. You can actually see some of the display from Highway 31 as you drive by, but do go the extra mile and see the whole thing. It's happening at the NMB Park & Sports Complex now through December 30, except for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. (WMBF) Winter Wonderland at the Beach in Myrtle Beach kicked off this week at the boardwalk. There's a lot to do every night for the next month so be sure to check it out! Now through December 23. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
