Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Farrow Parkway near Fred Nash Boulevard was closed Friday evening for some time after a pedestrian was hit by a car and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car that hit the pedestrian was taken into custody. It is unclear what charges that person will be facing. Westbound lanes were blocked and closed while first responders and investigators worked at the scene. (WBTW) (WMBF)
  2. Early Saturday morning, a person was taken to the hospital after a two-car crash in Little River. This incident happened on eastbound Highway 9 and Sea Mountain Highway around 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Roads were blocked in this case, too. There is no additional information on the person's condition. (WBTW) (wpde.com)
  3. North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue crews responded to a structure fire at a multi-story building in the city on Friday night. Crews were able to isolate the blaze to one unit on the top floor of the building on Cenith Drive. There was little impact to other units in the building. Horry County Fire Rescue provided assistance. (wpde.com)
  4. Representative Russell Fry (R-SC) has been elected to serve as president of the congressional freshman class in Washington, D.C. Fry and all other new members of Congress participated in orientation sessions last week. Fry posted on Facebook that he is proud and honored and ready to get started. Fry represents South Carolina's 7th Congressional District. (WMBF)
  5. Horry County Animal Care Center is hosting a "home for the holidays" program in the hopes of placing as many shelter pets in loving homes as possible during the holidays. The program offers two options: 1) permanently adopt a dog or cat at no charge and take the pet home; or 2) be a short-term foster home to give animals a chance to be out of the kennel during the holiday. Those interested in fostering can go to the shelter on November 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and choose an animal to spend Thanksgiving weekend at their home until November 27. Anyone choosing option 2 may return the pet to the shelter on November 27, or arrange to permanently adopt the animal! (wpde.com)

  • You may not know me as a crazy cat lady, but it's true! I've had cats my whole life. I'm also a member of the Cat Writers' Association. On Saturday, I was the featured guest on fellow cat writer Mollie Hunt's blog, "Crazy Cat Lady Mysteries and more." If you'd like to read Mollie's interview with me, check it out in the link here: (Mollie Hunt Cat Writer) [Pssst: I even mention the Myrtle Beach Patch!]
  • News13's Pet of the Weekend is Eden, a black and white dog about two or three years old, available for adoption from Grand Strand Humane Society. Eden is currently in foster care with a volunteer. She loves toys, car rides, children and other dogs. She would make a great family pet! (WBTW)

They are asking for gently worn coats, hats, gloves and mittens now through December 2 at various locations around the Grand Strand. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
