🌱 Oceanfront Condos Unsafe + Submerged Car At Wacca Wache Marina
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

Morning, everybody! It's me, Kathy Mandell, your host of the Myrtle Beach Daily. Here's all the community news you need to know on this Sunday, October 9, 2022, including:
- All units evacuated after oceanfront condos deemed structurally unsafe by Horry County
- A vehicle goes into the river at Wacca Wache Marina
- Classic cars descend upon the Grand Strand for several weekend auto shows
But first, today's weather:
Sunshine and pleasant. High: 72 Low: 62.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Myrtle Beach who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Myrtle Beach Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Residents of the Renaissance Towers near Myrtle Beach were told to evacuate the building on Friday night. Horry County officials evacuated all units of the oceanfront condo building Friday night and posted signage indicating that the building is unsafe. Use or occupancy of the structure is now prohibited by Horry County code enforcement. The signs say violators of the order will be prosecuted. News outlets obtained copies of a letter sent to residents by management company Empress Management. That letter indicates that a steel frame is not secure and that the situation is severe. The oceanfront condos are located at 5905 South Kings Highway. (wpde.com)
- A submerged vehicle at the Wacca Wache Marina near Murrells Inlet caused Georgetown County officials to close the boat ramp there during the wee hours of Saturday morning. A vehicle was driven down the boat ramp and into the water at about 3 a.m. The occupants of the vehicle escaped and made it to shore safely. The boat ramp is now open, but it was closed while authorities removed the vehicle from the water. (WBTW) (WMBF)
- Classic car enthusiasts packed Broadway At The Beach and Barefoot Landing this weekend. About 750 cars registered for the Cruisin' the Beach and the F-Body Beach Bash at Broadway. The weather brought out spectators who could attend for free. Everyone was happy to be out and about after last week's hurricane. (WMBF) North Myrtle Beach had a car show of its own at Barefoot Landing. The Chicora Car Club Classic Car Show benefitted local charities at the organization's annual Cruise to the Coast Antique & Classic Car and Truck Show on Saturday. (Explore North Myrtle Beach)
- Surfside Beach Realty was recognized by the Horry County Historic Preservation Commission for over 60 years of service along the Grand Strand. Owners EJ and Miriam Servant were recognized during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday. Surfside Realty manages more than 500 privately-owned properties and started in 1962. It is the oldest business in Surfside Beach. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:
A little something different for today's pic of the day. Reader Sharon Roscoe submitted this photo of her beloved blue and white parakeet. This pretty boy flew away from the Barefoot Landing area about two weeks ago, and Sharon says he could be anywhere. So, if you happen to have found him, or if you see him, just send an email to the Myrtle Beach Patch, and we will let Sharon know. Thank you!!

Hold onto those Myrtle Beach photos, folks! We are working on a backlog of photos submitted recently. Thank you so much for your patience.
Today in Myrtle Beach:
- Harvest Home Weekend @ Brookgreen Gardens (All day)
- Little River Shrimpfest @ Little River Waterfront (9 a.m.)
- Rumble In The Jungle King Mackerel Tournament @ Captain Archie's (1 p.m.)
- 2nd annual Stein Hoist Competition @ Dave & Buster's (3 p.m.)
- Eaglemania: Eagles Tribute Band @ The Carolina Opry (7 p.m.)
- Full Moon Cruise @ Murrells Inlet on The Explorer (board at Dead Dog Saloon) (7:30 p.m.)
From my notebook:
- News13's Pet of the Weekend is Rolando, a two-year-old mixed-breed dog available from Grand Strand Humane Society. Rolando was previously News13's Pet of the Weekend back in August. He is the only dog featured on News13 that has not been adopted. Rolando is great with dogs, cats and kids. He is crate trained and wants to get the ball rolling on finding a family to love. The shelter also announced that a feline outbreak of panleukopenia virus at the temporary facility in Tanger Outlets has caused GSHS to pause cat and kitten adoptions from that facility. Feline friends living in foster homes can be adopted. (WBTW)
- The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach: Help if you CAN! Not sure what to do with all of your aluminum cans? Bring them to the shelter! We recycle them and turn them into dollars to care for the animals! (The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach via Facebook)
- October 22 is National Make A Dog's Day and Subaru dealerships, including Hadwin-White, are participating in a huge adoption event for the whole month of October to help more pets find forever homes. As part of the nationwide Subaru Loves Pets campaign Hadwin-White will donate $100 to Grand Strand Humane Society for pets adopted from GSHS in October. (Hadwin-White Subaru)
- Did you catch Myrtle Beach mystery writer Caleb Wygal on Carolina AM recently? Well, not to worry if you missed it, because the whole interview was captured on YouTube. Check out Grand Strand celebrity Greg Rowles' reaction when he finds out he may be the inspiration for a character in Caleb's latest books. (Carolina AM via YouTube)
You're officially in the loop for today! See you tomorrow morning for your Monday update.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
