1. $72 million renourishment project completed in the Grand Strand (wmbfnews.com) — A $72 million federal beach renourishment project has just wrapped up along the Grand Strand, including a major rebuild of Myrtle Beach's dunes and shoreline to better protect oceanfront property from storms. Crews placed over 1.5 million cubic yards of sand, finishing the Myrtle Beach segment in July and completing Surfside Beach and Garden City this month. Officials will continue monitoring how well the wider beaches hold up.
   

2. New Myrtle Beach police chief 'ready' to take the reigns (myhorrynews.com) — Myrtle Beach has selected Fredrick Chambers, a veteran Fairfax County deputy chief, as the city's next police chief, with his start expected in late September or early October. After a nationwide search to replace retiring Chief Amy Prock, Chambers brings 26 years of law enforcement experience, including work with the Secret Service and extensive leadership roles in Northern Virginia policing.
   

3. 10-foot python found roaming in Market Common (wbtw.com) — A 10-foot albino python was captured Monday night in the Market Common area of Myrtle Beach after a driver spotted it along the road, and wildlife experts say it was likely someone's escaped or released pet. The Snake Chaser safely removed the non-native snake and is temporarily housing it while waiting to see if an owner comes forward, while urging residents not to handle similar reptiles themselves.
   

4. Pilots to the Rescue transports 27 dogs from S.C. to N.J. for adoption (nj.com subscription) — Two local shelters in the Myrtle Beach area just sent 27 dogs north to a New Jersey adoption center, freeing up badly needed space for more at-risk animals here. Grand Strand Humane Society and Horry County Animal Care Center partnered with Pilots to the Rescue, which provided free van transport so the dogs can find permanent homes while easing overcrowding locally.
