• Legal loophole meant to boost affordable housing in SC has some getting million-dollar tax breaks (postandcourier.com) — Port Royal officials say a state tax loophole has cost the town about $350,000 in property tax revenue for 2025-26 after The Preserve at Port Royal received a full exemption through a nonprofit partnership. They’re warning this could permanently strain funding for schools, public safety, and services, and are pressing state lawmakers to tighten the law so “affordable” housing must truly be affordable.
