Here's what's planned (islandpacket.com) — More than 100 new Mungo Homes townhouses are moving forward on 11 cleared acres off North Paris Avenue in Port Royal, next to the Preserve at Port Royal apartments. Town officials say the project, approved under an older tree ordinance, kept 47 key trees and required no mitigation payments, even as Port Royal continues to question tax breaks benefiting the neighboring Preserve complex.

Parris Island drill instructor found dead in Florida (postandcourier.com) — A Parris Island drill instructor stationed just south of Port Royal was found dead in a Florida hotel on May 30, with local and military authorities still investigating the cause. The report notes his service record, recent leadership change at the depot, and Parris Island’s key role training Marines in the Port Royal Sound area.

South Carolina assisted living manager fired after mocking Pam Bondi's cancer diagnosis in viral video (foxnews.com) — Residents should know that a manager at Helena Square Assisted Living in Port Royal was fired after a social media video mocking former Florida official Pam Bondi’s cancer diagnosis drew widespread criticism. The company’s parent, Navion Senior Solutions, emphasized that the video did not reflect its values and said it acted after reviewing community concerns.
4. Loud, pounding noise could last at least a year once Beaufort's $66M promenade project begins (islandpacket.com) — Beaufort’s long-closed Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park promenade is slated for a full $66 million rebuild that could bring 12 to 18 months of loud pile‑driving noise downtown. The raised, flood‑resistant design would reshape the park and nearby marina area that Port Royal residents regularly visit, with City Council poised to consider the preferred option and launch detailed design work soon.
