• South Carolina expands stroke training as officials urge residents to act fast (florencenewsjournal.com) — Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System and Spartanburg EMS are among 16 providers newly certified to deliver advanced stroke care and train others across South Carolina, aiming to speed treatment for local patients. State health officials are using Stroke Smart South Carolina Month to push residents to recognize warning signs quickly and call 911, as the state continues battling one of the nation’s highest stroke death rates.
   

• Officials: Upstate funeral home CEO awaiting extradition on Michigan sex crime charge (foxcarolina.com) — Spartanburg County deputies recently arrested an Upstate funeral home CEO on a fugitive warrant connected to a serious criminal charge in Michigan, and he is expected to be extradited there. Authorities have not released further local details, but investigators say they are continuing to review his background while he remains in custody.
   

• USC Upstate lands in Tuscaloosa regional, faces Oklahoma St. Friday (wspa.com) — Spartanburg’s own USC Upstate baseball team is heading to the NCAA Tournament’s Tuscaloosa Regional after clinching a second straight Big South title. The Spartans, riding a red-hot May, will open as the No. 3 seed against Oklahoma State, with Alabama and Alabama State rounding out the regional field.
