Being a 'Peacemaker'

Between you and me on the subject of being a "peacemaker."

We often read lately about the budget, debt ceiling along with a host of other wrangling things going on on around us — confusing to say the least.

Bring on the aspirin please, my head is about to go boom!

As I was trying to make sense of all of this (we pastor type people call it meditation), I thought about it — no, I mean meditated on it a bit — the word "peacemaker."

God knows we have a shortage of them.

With all that is going on in the world, wars, overthrow of governments in lands we know little about (let alone spell or pronounce their names) or even know who is running the show. Sort of like here, in our hallowed halls of Congress. Hits home, doesn't it?

As I was thinking — no meditating — I was suddenly reminded of the Bible and it's meaning of the action word "peacemaker."

Hang on now; don't leave me. It won't hurt, I promise. Well, maybe a bit.

In Matthew 5:9, we read that "blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God."  As I thought a while about this verse, it said, "we are blessed if we are a peacemaker."

That's you and that's me. Pretty heavy stuff, don't you think?

I sure think so. Especially so when I remember the other night, I spoke to my spouse in harsh words. Not a very good peacemaker, am I? I didn't get any response, not a word not a sound. I was right! I just know it.

Later in bed, as we were preparing to sleep, she moved over and gave me a kiss - and said "Good night, honey."

Now I wonder, who was the peacemaker?
