Bobby Harrell, the New Nullifier?
Is Bobby Harrell, the speaker of the house, a nullifier?
Bobby Harrell has been in the news lately for supporting H3473, Rep. Greg Delleny's bill to nullify Obamacare. After initially opposing nullification and only making vague references to the 10th Amendment, Harrell is now suddenly a full bore nullifier, or so it seems. This morning he was on the WTMA Morning show and he expressed full support for the bill. He said it would block the Obamacare exchanges and protect South Carolina from the negative effects of the PPACA.
But is that true?
Unfortunately, no. Delleny's bill is a fake. It does not affect Obamacare in the slightest. If the state doesn't setup the healthcare exchange, the federal government will, and it will impose it on the citizens of South Carolina, along with all of the new regulations and taxes that are included in the legislation. Most importantly, it does nothing to block the new Medicaid expansion that comes with Obamacare, which will result in federal money being funnelled into the hands of crafty South Carolina politicians.

For example, Bobby Harrell himself has set up a pharmaceutical business, which he allegedly used the power of his state office to rush through the certification process, which will profit greatly from the Medicaid expansion included in Obamacare. So while pretending to be a nullifier and to protect South Carolina from the damaging effects of the unconstitutional PPACA, he's really just grandstanding and using the power of government to enrich himself. Imagine that.
Meanwhile, there is a genuine nullification effort out there. Many groups have rallied around Bill Chumley's bill, H3101, which is actual nullification. It makes all of the PPACA illegal in South Carolina and includes penalties for any federal agent that tries to enforce the law within the borders of our state. This bill, along with Delleney's bill, are going to have a hearing tomorrow in Columbia. I would personally urge all those opposed to the federal takeover of healthcare to follow along with this, and even participate if you support this effort.
