Government employees protest free market, employee choice

Union planning protest at Rep. Tim Scott's office on Thursday June 30th. I hope other citizens will show up to SUPPORT our Congressman.

Employees that should be working will instead be protesting our Congressman Tim Scott’s job creation policies. The American Federation of Government Employees Union (AFGE) is planning on holding a protest outside of Rep. Scott’s office on Thursday June 30, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. The protesters plan on highlighting Rep. Scott’s allegedly awful record for working families. But, the AFGE employees are missing something – Rep. Scott doesn’t have harmful policies toward our working families, instead he supports strong policies geared toward a free market, the freedom to work where you want to work and for all citizens to keep more of their own hard earned money.

Let us take a look at these so-called “sinister” policies Rep. Scott supports. He supports lowering tax rates so that funds can be repatriated and jobs can be created here at home, not abroad. He has championed the elimination of burdensome mandates on small business that were enacted with ObamaCare, which would have expanded our tax code making it more convoluted and adding to the paperwork for small businesses. He has pursued welfare reform, so that needy families can break the chains of poverty and become self-reliant. I agree with Rep. Scott that these policies will lead to job growth and a reduction in individuals dependent upon entitlements.

Rep. Scott has consistently supported policies that benefit all of his constituents, not just a select group. Could there be other factors at play in this union protest? Perhaps, it's his fight for transparency and freedom in paying union dues. Maybe it’s his tireless fighting for those that choose not to join a union have their rights respected. Private sector employees have taken it especially hard during this recession, while public sector employees continue to experience raises and protection from layoffs. He has only asked that all workers be treated fairly, whether they are union or non-union, private or public sector.

I am extremely proud of the work that Rep. Scott has done in his short time in Congress and look forward to showing up at his office on Thursday to let him know it. If you would like to join others that feel the same then please join me on Thursday June 30, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at 2000 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. in West Ashley to let him know what a great job we think he is doing. I look forward to seeing you there.
