• Sumter Adult Education receives $8K grant from Dollar General Literacy Foundation (theitem.com) — Sumter County Adult Education has received an $8,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to expand technology and support adult literacy programs for local residents. The funding will help more Sumter adults prepare for GEDs, improve English skills, and build workforce readiness through hybrid and online learning. Leaders say the grant will boost student confidence, retention, and transitions into jobs or further education.
   

• S.C. man stops for bread, wins $500,000 lottery prize (upi.com) — A shopper who stopped at the Piggly Wiggly on South Guignard Drive in Sumter for a loaf of bread ended up winning $500,000 on a Ruby Red Treasures scratch-off ticket. The Midlands man scratched the ticket at home, was stunned by the six-figure prize, and hasn’t yet decided how he’ll use the windfall.
   

• Mysterious boom rattles South Carolina Midlands; agencies search for answers (wltx.com) — Residents in Sumter were among hundreds across the Midlands who felt and heard a powerful boom around 5:30 p.m., strong enough to jolt roofs and security cameras. State agencies, NASA, the military, and seismic monitors all say they don’t yet know what caused it but are actively investigating.
