Little Learners to close in December after 13 years in Mitchell (mitchellrepublic.com) — One of Mitchell's largest child care centers, Little Learners, is set to close December 23 after 13 years, leaving families to seek new options for roughly 180 children. Owner Kayla Lux cites personal burnout, rising regulatory costs, staffing challenges, and even recent vandalism, while local economic development leaders scramble to find a new buyer or operator to keep the facility serving Mitchell families.
   

2. Black Eagle development plan west of Lake Mitchell gets first approvals (mitchellrepublic.com) — A major new 88-acre Black Eagle Ridge housing development just west of Lake Mitchell has cleared its first hurdles with the city's Planning and Zoning Commission and now heads to Davison County for approval. Plans call for 55 homes, duplexes, a storage facility, and a commons building only minutes from Mitchell grocery stores, with construction hoped to begin this fall and lots available by spring.
   

3. Mitchell Man Sentenced to 85 Years on First Degree Rape Charges (brookingsradio.com) — A Mitchell man has been sentenced in Davison County Circuit Court to 85 years in prison on each of two first-degree rape counts involving victims under 13, with sentences to run concurrently. State investigators and the Mitchell Police Department handled the case, and the Attorney General says the punishment underscores South Dakota's commitment to protecting vulnerable children and supporting victims who come forward.
   

4. Mayor's Update: Mitchell Cybersecurity Investigation Finds Small Number of Employees Affected (mitchellnow.com) — Mitchell city officials say their investigation into the August 6 cybersecurity breach found that only a small number of employees had information impacted, and those workers have been notified and given free credit monitoring. City operations continued with minimal disruption, and leaders emphasize that systems were quickly secured and restored while they remain available to answer residents' questions about the incident.
   

5. Kernels' Asher Dannenbring wins individual title at ESD Conference golf meet (mitchellrepublic.com) — Mitchell's boys golf team, led by standout senior Asher Dannenbring, turned heads as he captured the Eastern South Dakota Conference individual title with a 2-under 70. His performance helped the Kernels finish just 10 strokes off the winning team score, keeping Mitchell firmly in the mix ahead of the upcoming state championship in Aberdeen.
