Jacks Junction Steakhouse Takeover Draws Students for Palentines Day

Jacks Junction transformed into a steakhouse for one night, blending reservations, ambiance, and student buzz into a standout event.

BROOKINGS, SD — Known for quick-service American fare and its popular SDSU ice cream, Jacks Junction took on a different role for one night during Palentines Day at South Dakota State University.

Branded as a “Steakhouse Takeover,” the February 12 event invited students to “Bring your pals. We’ll bring the steak.” Reservations were required by February 10 and handled exclusively through a mobile app, creating early momentum and clear commitment from attendees.

The dining room was arranged for a plated steak dinner, complete with linens and full table settings. Collaboration with the catering department elevated presentation and service, shifting the pace of the evening and giving students a setting designed for conversation and connection.

Promotion began weeks in advance and was managed internally through Dining’s own channels. Social media outreach, student-created signage, and themed messaging embedded directly within the mobile app kept the event visible. Interns played a central role in developing graphics and reinforcing the Steakhouse Takeover identity across platforms.

Requiring reservations added structure and anticipation. Students secured their seats ahead of time, and participation reflected strong interest in a planned dining event on campus. Feedback following the evening confirmed that the concept resonated.

Palentines Day demonstrated how a clear theme, sustained marketing, and coordinated execution can turn a familiar campus location into a destination for a night students choose to prioritize.
