• Costa Mesa okays 2,300 homes as California pursues its lawsuit (housingwire.com) — Costa Mesa officials have approved 2,300 homes on a 110-acre former state care facility site, including 920 units reserved for low- and very low-income residents, even as the city faces a state lawsuit over its housing element. The project adds open space and commercial space but falls short of staff’s recommended density, raising concerns Costa Mesa may need to revise its housing plans again to meet California’s strict targets.
   

• Review: A revamped ‘Beauty and the Beast' in Costa Mesa stays true to its tale (ocregister.com) — Disney’s revamped touring production of “Beauty and the Beast” is running at Costa Mesa’s Segerstrom Center through Oct. 11, with updated choreography, design tweaks, and a strong cast led by Kyra Belle Johnson. Local theatergoers can expect familiar songs, some visual changes, and a highly praised performance by Devin Archer as Beast through Sept. 27, before the principal actor returns for the run’s final weeks.
