Shasta County budget passes with fixes for Shasta County District Attorney's Office staffing crisis (actionnewsnow.com) — Shasta County supervisors in Redding have approved the 2026-27 budget with new retention bonuses aimed at easing the District Attorney’s severe prosecutor shortage. With nine vacancies limiting which cases can be filed, the plan also funds AI tools and restores a code enforcement position to keep core public safety and county operations functioning.

Firefighters stop Buckeye Fire near Lake Boulevard in north Redding (redding.com) — Firefighters quickly contained the Buckeye Fire near Lake Boulevard in north Redding and the larger Linden Fire south of downtown on Friday afternoon, keeping both blazes relatively small. Crews are monitoring hot spots, and the Redding Fire Department is urging residents to clear defensible space, avoid spark-prone activities, and report any smoke or flames immediately.
   

3. Redding man sentenced to 15 Years in fatal shooting of mother (krcrtv.com) — A North Redding man has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for fatally shooting his mother in the Shadow Glen Drive home they shared. Shasta County prosecutors say he pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter with a firearm enhancement after an investigation by Redding police.

Hoaxed Book US Tour Dates with Black Tusk (ghostcultmag.com) — Fans of heavy, dark rock in Redding can catch Portland trio Hoaxed with Black Tusk at The Dip on August 6 as part of their West Coast tour. The run supports Hoaxed’s new album “Death Knocks,” recorded earlier this year, and brings a full live set of their latest songs to a small local stage.
