• Griffin Health Community Garden To Host Free Presentation On Bugs (newhavenindependent.org) — Griffin Hospital’s Community Garden in Derby is hosting a free “Good Bug, Bad Bug” class on Thursday, July 23 at 5 p.m. Residents can learn to spot helpful versus harmful insects, get tips on preventing infestations, and explore broader gardening basics while promoting healthier eating. Registration is required to reserve a spot. 
• Catholic War Vets Organize ‘Tunnel To Towers' Events (newhavenindependent.org) — Catholic War Veterans Post 1562 on Derby Avenue is lining up a full slate of 2026 “Tunnel to Towers” fundraisers, from themed dinners to raffles, to support future Connecticut projects. Derby residents can join Spanish dinners, patio nights, bingo-style games, and a leather fire helmet raffle as the post works toward a $10,000 goal by December.
