Driver allegedly flees New Britain crash where motorcyclist was found in critical condition (wtnh.com) — New Britain police are investigating a serious crash on Lawlor Street where a motorcyclist was found unresponsive and remains in critical condition at The Hospital of Central Connecticut. Officers say the driver of the other vehicle fled the scene, and the Traffic Division is asking anyone with information to contact Capt. Krolikowski as they work to identify who was involved.
   

2. New Britain fights off Maloney's comeback behind Seymour's three-touchdown night (newbritainherald.com) — New Britain football fans just saw a thriller at Veterans Stadium, where quarterback Billy Seymour ran for three touchdowns to lift the Golden Hurricanes over Maloney 21-20 after a big Spartans comeback. The win moves New Britain to 1-0 and sets up a huge home test next week against top-ranked New Canaan, the third defending state champion on the Hurricanes’ demanding schedule.
   

3. Lawmakers react to Toro stepping down as CCSU president amid allegations (wfsb.com) — Central Connecticut State University in New Britain is in the spotlight as former president Zulma Toro steps down amid misconduct allegations, prompting reactions from state leaders. Gov. Ned Lamont urges residents not to rush to judgment, while his opponent, Sen. Ryan Fazio, presses for accountability and answers about how long concerns may have been known. An investigation is underway and Toro’s retirement becomes effective Oct. 1.
   

4. Karla Garcia, mother charged in death of 11-year-old daughter, seeks to move case to Hartford (nbcboston.com) — New Britain residents are watching closely as the mother charged in the death of 11-year-old Mimi Torres-Garcia, whose body was found in a tote on Clark Street, seeks to move her case from Litchfield to Hartford. Her attorney argues a Hartford jury pool would be more diverse, while the state says judicial boundary changes shouldn’t apply retroactively; a judge has not yet ruled on the request.
   

5. FEMA awards millions to emergency responders throughout Connecticut (wtnh.com) — New Britain is set to receive more than $290,000 in FEMA funding dedicated to firefighter training, part of nearly $3.8 million awarded to departments across Connecticut. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant money will help pay for training, equipment, and other readiness efforts so local crews are better prepared when serious emergencies strike.
