3. Lake Charles native to become the nation's youngest Catholic bishop (wafb.com) — A Lake Charles native is set to become the nation’s youngest Catholic bishop, after Pope Leo XIV named Rev. Robert P. Boxie III an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Washington. Boxie grew up in Lake Charles, attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and St. Louis Catholic High School, and now serves as chaplain at Howard University.

Louisiana lawmakers advance bills to protect the domestic shrimp industry (kplctv.com) — Lawmakers meeting in Lake Charles are pushing three bills aimed at cracking down on mislabeled imported shrimp and boosting marketing for Louisiana-caught seafood. Local seafood veteran Anthony “Tad” Theriot and Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain say stronger enforcement and promotion could help protect Gulf shrimpers from cheap foreign competition and antibiotic-tainted imports.
