Sussex County Prosecutor's Office hosts crisis intervention training for law enforcement (wrnjradio.com) — Law enforcement officers and mental health professionals gathered in Newton for a weeklong Crisis Intervention Team training hosted by the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office. The 40-hour course focused on de-escalation, understanding mental illness, and connecting people in crisis with support services, culminating in a certificate ceremony on April 17.

Community: Teens Earn Volunteer Hours at the Library this Summer (lakehopatcongnews.com) — Teen volunteers in Newton can earn service hours this summer by helping with the Sussex County Library System’s “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading Program. Applications, including medical and parental consent forms, are due June 13, and orientations will be held at local branches before the June 25–July 25 program.

4. Charleston conviction takes center stage as judge denies Bob McCaffrey bond Monday (abcnews4.com) — A Sussex County judge in Newton has ordered Bob McCaffrey to remain jailed until trial, citing his prior Charleston conviction and concerns he could obstruct justice or contact witnesses in the McBride murder case. Prosecutors successfully introduced extensive Charleston investigative records over defense objections, and the next key step is a May 18 pre-indictment conference where a plea deal could emerge.
