He Definitely Won't Get His Security Deposit Back: Man Sets Fire to Convince His Roommate to Move Out, Police Say

A South Nashville man wanted to be rid of his roommate, so he set their house ablaze.

NASHVILLE, TN — A south Nashville man wanted a new roommate, and now he has some: the other inmates at the Davidson County Jail.

Police say 18-year-old Stephen Anderson set fire to the house where he was living on Mallory Street near Rains Avenue because, according to his statement, he wanted his roommate out of the house. Investigators say Anderson poured gasoline on his roommates door and set it afire with a lighter, but then his conscience got the better of him so he put it out before he got out of control.

Anderson was booked on charges of aggravated arson and is being held in his new digs — free of the unwanted roommate — on a $102,000 bond.
