Hours-Long Edgehill Standoff Ends Peacefully

A man believed to be trespassing ran from police and hid in an attic, kicking off a standoff in Edgehill.

NASHVILLE, TN — A man hiding in an Edgehill attic prompted a three-hour standoff with Metro Police that ended with his peaceful surrender.

Officers patrolling 13th Avenue South early Friday morning spotted a man who they believed to be trespassing. The man, 22-year-old Muhammad Cannon, spoke to police but gave them false information and then ran towards a nearby residential area. Police say him enter a home and were given permission to search it by a woman there.

Initially, they were unable to locate Cannon, but one of the officers noticed a broken latch on an attic door and heard the sound of someone scurrying about in the attic.

The responding officers then called in the police department's Special Response Team who spent more than two hours working to convince Cannon to give himself, which, after more than three hours, he did without incident. He is charged with criminal trespass, evading and a probation violation.
