Local Man, 60, Killed While Riding Bicycle on Busy Road: Reports

SUV driver in accident remained on the scene, say Metro Nashville Police.

ANTIOCH, TN — A bicyclist died Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle on Murfreesboro Pike near Mount View Road, according to media reports.

The crash happened at about 2:40 p.m., News Channel 5 reported. The bicyclist, 60-year-old Michael David Wilson of Antioch, was pushing his bicycle in the center turn lane in the 3000 block of Murfreesboro Pike. He then rode across the roadway into a southbound traffic lane, where he was hit by a Honda CRV, according to the Metro Nashville Police.

Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene, WSMV-TV Channel 4 reported. The Honda driver, 36-year-old Kartan Reid, was not injured, and he stayed on the scene.

The police said there was no indication of drug or alcohol use, and that Wilson's failure to use the available bike lane and failure to yield contributed to the crash, according to media reports.

The police also said criminal charges are not expected to be filed in this accident.
