Nashville Police: Woman, Daughter 'Likely' Hit By Officers' Bullets During Domestic Incident
Metro Police say an investigation shows it's likely a mom and her daughter were hit by gunfire from officers during a shootout.

NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Police concede that a woman and her daughter were "likely" hit by bullets fired by officers during a shootout following a domestic situation in Antioch earlier this month.
Police arrested Michel Guirgis, 52, after a shootout at an Antioch home during which he was allegedly holding a gun to his wife's head. Three officers fired their guns, hitting Guirgis, but also his wife and 10-year-old daughter. It was initially unclear if the bullets that hit the mom and daughter came from Guirgis himself or the police, though the family's older daughter insisted from the beginning it was from MNPD. Guirgis had been arrested and charged with aggravated criminal trespassing two days before the shooting. The day before, Guirguis' wife filed an order of protection against her husband, who had the trespassing charges retired and was released by Assistant District Attorney Fred Pickney. Pickney, however, failed to notify or discuss the retirement with Guirguis' wife per protocol. Pickney resigned, "distraught" by the events that followed.

Thursday, MNPD said the investigation is ongoing, but that police likely injured Guirgis as well as his wife and daughter.
"The investigation is continuing but after a series of interviews with all of the parties our investigative team, with the information it presently has, believes it is likely that the two females were injured by police gunfire from the front of the residence just after the confrontation began," a statement said.
